This was mama's first birthday party long ago. The archivists are still trying to locate dada's first.

The Best Birthday Yet

Dylan turns 1.

The balloons were a big hit (and sometimes pop) to get the party started.

Mommy makes the cake! Mommy made a duck-shaped cake with homemade lemon cake and lemon icing. Dylan loves lemons and ducks!

Getting ready for the birthday song. Dylan's family and friends sang a wonderful chorus of Happy Birthday -- Dylan loved it! Right in the middle he started clapping (his newest skill) and the crowd clapped too.

Daddy asked Dylan what he wished for without hesitation he said, "duck." His wish came true in the next bite.

Dylan's friend Bryce with her mom and dad, Steve and Megan.

Dylan's friends Russell and Nora with their mom and dad, Bob and Carla.

Bryce hearts Dylan.

Dylan takes a well-deserved rest to dream about his party, his friends, and (of course) his ducks.

A Birthday Poem

In honor of Dylan's first birthday and his love of ducks, his Grandpa (Deb's Dad) wrote this poem...

Dylan’s Birthday # “1”

Lil’ Baby Dylan came a long way
From laying and crawling, and standing all day!
All the while gently hugging; his lil’ “Duck”!
This gives him comfort and brings good luck!!

Grandpa’s been searching and searching
To find a word to rhyme with a “Duck”!
So, as his dad plays Hockey!
I’ll rhyme it with “Puck”!

As Dylan grows older
He’ll know what I mean
To rhyme a word with Duck
Is no easy thing!
From being with Grammy
Who always was there!
To being out on his own
Surviving “Day Care!”

Life may be hard
As you head for “Two”!
Be happy and have fun
There’s so much to do!
So hold your head up!
And be real proud!
When things go wrong
Yell “DUCK” out loud!

Mom and Dad will come running
Faster than a speeding “Puck”!
To see why lil’ Dylan
Really gives a, “Duck”!

Enjoy your Birthday!

Love!

Grandpa!

My First Nationals Game

Uncle James hooked me and my mom and pops up. Great seats down the first base line just a few rows up. That was a fun game, and great afternoon.

I left my crib and met up wit my cuz Nate Dog. We were up in RFK jus drinkin some milk, having some bananas and hotdogs and watching the interleague matchup. Nats came back too, late in the 8th inning and DC ended up beating the Orioles.

My mom is the best, she makes me smile all the time. Thanks for the cool cap Mom!

Riding home on my dad is probably my favorite part of going to the game!
